Baird Votes Against Flawed National Defense Authorization Act

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Jim Baird (IN-04) voted against the Conference Report to the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on the grounds that it failed to protect the American people from spying by their own government and included measures that allow taxpayer dollars to fund abortion procedures.

“Nobody in Congress is a bigger supporter of the military than I am,” said Rep. Baird. “I was proud to support the House version of the NDAA in July. Unfortunately, this legislation has been watered down to include provisions that allow the Federal government to violate our right to privacy and spy on American citizens. Moreover, I’m disappointed that this legislation failed to include important provisions that prevent our tax dollars from funding abortions and gender reassignment surgeries. It is unacceptable that the House passed an NDAA that fails to uphold our promises to our military personnel and the American people.”

Background:

In July, Congressman Baird voted for the House version of the NDAA, which would have ended many of the Left’s most radical proposals. This includes ending Biden’s taxpayer funded abortion travel fund, ending taxpayer funding for gender reassignment surgeries, and dismantling powers that allow spying on American Citizens. The legislation also included important provisions that protected service members who were discharged for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine and created an Inspector General for Ukraine aid accountability.
