Congressman Baird Applauds National Science Foundation $2 Million Grant to Purdue University

Washington, DC – Representative Jim Baird (R-IN) applauds the announcement of the National Science Foundation awarding Purdue University nearly $2 million to advance medical research on finding solutions to help prevent bone fractures in elderly Americans.

“Purdue University has a rich history of providing the world with medical breakthroughs. This award reflects the confidence the NSF has in Purdue’s ability to continue to produce valuable and needed research,” Representative Baird said.

The funds will be used for a program called, “Engineering New Solutions to Reduce the Burden of Skeletal Fracture.” The purpose of this research is to help the 1.5 million Americans who suffer age-related bone fractures each year. By researching new pathways like enhanced bone hydration, researchers hope they can reduce bone fragility in older Americans.
