Rep. Baird Votes to Hold Attorney General Merrick Garland In Contempt of Congress

Congressman Jim Baird (IN-04) issued the following statement after the House passed a resolution holding U.S. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland in Contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena issued by the Committee on the Judiciary, H. Res. 1292:

“Attorney General Garland’s failure to provide Congress with the audio recordings from Special Counsel Robert Hur’s interview with President Biden regarding his unlawful handling of classified documents, is just another example of why the American people have lost confidence in our justice system. The American people deserve an attorney general and Department of Justice that is committed to upholding the Constitution and obeying the rule of law. Unfortunately, Attorney General Garland removed the blindfold from Lady Justice in order to tip the scales in President Biden’s favor. This is why he deserved to be only the third attorney general in U.S. history to be held in Contempt of Congress.”
