Congressman Baird Votes to Avert Government Shutdown, Return Congress to Regular Order

Today, Congressman Jim Baird (IN-04) released the following statement after voting for H.R. 5371, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, to fully fund the federal government through November 21, 2025:

“I voted for the Continuing Resolution (CR) to prevent a costly shutdown and preserve uninterrupted access to Medicare, Social Security, and Veterans’ benefits for Hoosiers. Unlike House Democrats’ costly alternative, this CR does not include poison pills and gives Americans stability and certainty while Congress works to pass all 12 appropriations bills and return to regular order. Republicans will continue to curb Washington’s spending addiction and fight for fiscal responsibility. By contrast, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle want to increase our debt by $1.5 trillion to push their woke agenda and give handouts to illegal immigrants. Congress must put the American people first, which is why I voted in favor of this clean CR. I will continue to work with President Trump and my colleagues to end this waste, fraud, and abuse and make Washington, D.C., work for the American people.”
