Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jim Baird (IN-04) released the following statement offering his condolences to the family and friends of U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Jerry Betzold from Avon, Indiana who passed away on Saturday following a training exercise in Twentynine Palms, California.

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Staff Sgt. Jerry Betzold following a training exercise accident,” said Rep. Baird. “He tragically lost his life while working to ensure our Marines are properly trained and ready when called to defend our country. We are forever indebted to our men and women in uniform like Staff Sgt. Betzold who risk their lives to protect us and our freedoms. Please join Danise and I as we pray for his friends and family during this extremely difficult time.”
