Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Jim Baird (IN-04) voted in favor of H.R. 7521, legislation that will protect Americans and prevent foreign adversaries like Communist China from targeting, surveilling, and manipulating the American people through applications like TikTok. This legislation does not ban TikTok on American shores. Instead, it would require social media companies to divest ownership from Communist China, North Korea, and other adversaries if they wish to do business in the U.S. 

“Communist China cannot have free rein to push its agenda on the American people and manipulate our children,” said Rep. Baird. “Apps like TikTok have an immense impact on public discourse in our country and should not be controlled by our adversaries. This legislation is not an outright ban. Instead, it allows TikTok’s parent company to sell the app to an organization that is not affiliated with our adversaries before any action is taken.”
